Poker run in Elkton to raise money for scholarships
SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (Dakota News Now) - A poker run in Elkton Saturday will raise money for scholarships for kids in the area.
This event has been going on for the past 15 years. Organizers started it to honor Emmett Kuehl because he was part of the fire department and died while on a call. They wanted to start a memorial fund in his name after he passed. Throughout the years, the poker run grew into a weekend full of events with a softball tournament as well. Since then, it has been condensed to just the poker run.
This year’s event on Saturday will be the last as its the 15th anniversary. People will meet at the community center in Elkton between 11:00 AM and 1:00 PM. Organizers are trying to get people to social distance a little more, so they’re having registration at the community center. The route is also a little shorter this year. A quilt made with event t-shirts from the past several years will also be raffled off.
All of the money raised at this weekend’s event will help provide scholarships to kids in need in the area.
