GROTON, S.D. (Dakota News Now) -

UPDATE: Monday, September 14 - The two people killed in Sunday’s plane crash near Groton have been identified.

According to obituaries from Furness Funeral Home in Clark, Doug and Tina Hansen were killed in the plane crash in Brown County.

Funeral arrangements are pending.

Both people involved in a plane crash near Groton have died, authorities said late Sunday.

A small plane crashed around 11 a.m. Sunday near the Groton airport, according to the Brown County Sheriff’s Office.

Authorities said earlier Sunday that one of the people involved in the crash was airlifted to an Aberdeen hospital, but later in the day they confirmed both people involved in the crash had died.

The names of those involved have not been released. The cause of the crash is still under investigation.

Authorities are investigating a plane crash involving two people on board in northeast South Dakota.

The plane went down around 11 a.m. Sunday near the Groton airport, according to Brown County Sheriff’s Office Chief Deputy Dave Lunzman.

Lunzman said one person who was on board was airlifted to an Aberdeen hospital.

The cause of the crash is still under investigation. No other details have been released at this point.
