SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (Dakota News Now) - Lt. Terrance Matia of the Sioux Falls Police Department said officers responded to a call Wednesday night at Meadow Pines Mobile Home Park, about a body lying in the street.

“Laying out in the middle of the street for 25 minutes before police were even called,” said Matia.

Matia says the victim is 27-year-old Mitchell James Houchins.

Matia says an autopsy shows he died from a gunshot wound to his chest.

Along with details about the investigation, Matia also shared some frustrations.

“On at least 13 occasion now that I’ve been down here this year, I’ve been talking about it where we need the communities help and some will say, we need to figure it out ourselves,” Matia said. “I don’t see it that way.”

He says that police investigations require help.

“I believe the community interaction and people coming forward and giving us information is key to any investigation,” Metia said.

If you have any information you can call Crime Stoppers at 367-7007.
