South Dakota reports 434 new COVID-19 cases Tuesday

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (Dakota News Now) - The South Dakota Department of Health reported 434 new COVID-19 cases in the state Tuesday.

The new cases bring the state total to 101,076, 93,529 of which have recovered. Active cases increased slightly, up 46 from Sunday and Monday to 6,034.

Current hospitalizations increased to 270. According to the South Dakota Department of Health, COVID-19 patients occupy 9.9% of the state’s hospital beds and 23.5% of ICU beds. 42.8% of hospital beds and 37.4% of ICU beds are still available. Overall, 5,764 South Dakotans have been hospitalized due to the virus.

No new deaths were reported Tuesday, deaths remain at 1,513. Health officials reported 25 deaths over the holiday weekend.

So far, 27,260 South Dakotans have received either the Pfizer or Moderna COVID-19 vaccine.
