Touchstone Energy Scholar of the Week: Elkton senior pushes himself to do his best every day
ELKTON, S.D. (Dakota News Now) - Matthew Nibbe said his teachers have taught him a lot that he hopes to use in the future. The activities director in the Elkton School District, Steve Erickson, said Nibbe works hard and is an honest student.
“Matthew is a great kid, a great student, and a great athlete and the type of kid that you hope you get to teach and coach throughout your career and just been very fortunate to have him part of our school,” Erickson said.
Nibbe plays basketball and football and is involved in FFA and FCA.
“You kind of gotta just push yourself every day to keep going, try your hardest, and just not give up,” Nibbe said.
He’s setting an example for the younger students.
“He’s always willing to officiate youth games or help with youth practices or anything like that as far as stepping into a classroom and helping or visiting with kids about stuff,” Erickson said. “He’s just that type of kid that will never say no to ya.”
Nibbe lives every day like someone is watching his every move. He’s ready for the next step in life, studying precision technology at Lake Area Tech in Watertown. He may double major in ag production as well.
“I chose it because agriculture has always been a passion of mine. It’s something at a young age that I’ve really enjoyed doing, so I hope to carry that on in the future I guess,” he said.
And his work ethic and commitment to his education will help him achieve this goal.
For being named our Touchstone Energy Scholar of the Week, Nibbe receives a $250 scholarship from Lyon-Lincoln Electric Cooperative, which is a local Touchstone Energy Cooperative.
