Western Christian boys advance at State Soccer Tournament
Wolfpack wins as Baccum scores both goals
DES MOINES, IA (Dakota News Now) -The Wolfpack of Western Christian are the number-2 seed in class 1A. in boys soccer. And Tuesday’s quarterfinal game with North Fayette Valley was a battle. The game was scoreless going into the second half. Western Christian was looking to get on the board when Jeremiah Kredit with the shot, but it hits the crossbar.
The Wolfpack finally get on the board later in the half. Bailey Baccum finds the ball and pokes it by everyone and into the net for a goal. Western Christian takes a 1-nothing lead. And less than a minute later - Baccam strikes again. This time on the penalty kick. It finds the twine for his second goal of the game. And they made it stand up for the 2-0 win.
“They were pushed hard by a senior group last year which unfortunately missed out on hopefully a state run from last year,” said head coach Sou Baccam. “These guys continue to work hard. They were focused all season long. They just came out here and performed well.”
”We feed off of our energy so much. We needed that a lot so it was kind of tough to stay motivated in the game when it was zero’s for so long,” said senior Bailey Baccam. “But I think that we started creating some chances, got some energy and once we finally got one in, we just fed off of it and got some more chances going. It was really nice.”
The Wolfpack play West Liberty in the semifinals on Thursday.
