Canaries Take High Scoring Four Game Series From Apollos
Sioux Falls defeats Houston 16-7 on Sunday at the Birdcage
SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (Dakota News Now) - Though it’s hard to make any judgements on a 100 game season that’s only 17 games old, it’s safe to say the Sioux Falls Canaries REALLY enjoy playing the Houston Apollos.
The Canaries finished off a four game series victory on Sunday afternoon by defeating the Apollos 16-7 at the Birdcage. It completes a high scoring series for the Canaries in which they scored a total of 60 runs in four games, averaging 15 per game and improving to 11-7 on the year.
Sioux Falls pounded out 18 hits on Saturday with Trey Michalczewski and Zane Gurwitz each leading the way with three hits apiece. All but one player in the lineup drove in a run led by Nick Gotta’s five RBI performance. Gotta also hit his first homerun of the season.
Starter Ty Culbreath picked up the victory after striking out six over seven inning and allowing just two earned runs.
The Birds are off tomorrow and will open a three game home series with Cleburne on Tuesday.
