DES MOINES, IA (Dakota News Now) - Though the Western Christian Wolfpack boy’s soccer team certainly made the most of their first trip to the Iowa State Tournament in 21 years, they’ll have to wait a little longer to claim the program’s first championship since 1996.

Burlington-Notre Dame scored three second half goals to pull away from the Wolfpack and win the Iowa 1A State Championship 4-1 on Saturday afternoon at Cownie Soccer Park in Des Moines.

The Nikes held a 1-0 lead at the break thanks to a penalty kick goal from Hunter Lillie. They extended that lead to 2-0 on a Parker Davis goal that glanced off a Wolfpack player early in the second half.

Western Christian finally scored seven minutes later on a penalty kick from Bailey Baccam. Burlington-Notre Dame would get goals from Cole Ward and Gabe Zurita in the final 15 minutes to seal the victory.
