SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (Dakota News Now) - Molded Fiber Glass announced Tuesday it will close its Aberdeen plant, terminating hundreds of employees.

Molded Fiber Glass’ South Dakota plant located in Aberdeen has been manufacturing wind turbine blades since 2007. The company says it will continue to fulfill orders until August 6.

In a statement Tuesday, the Ohio company says the closure is due to market conditions.

“The closure comes as a result of changes in market conditions, foreign competition and proposed revisions to tax policies impacting the wind energy industry in the United States.”

Employees were notified of the closure through a letter on Tuesday. The letter states, “In an effort to maintain a viable operation, MFG has actively pursued alternate business opportunities during recent months, unfortunately without success.”

All 300 employees will be permanently laid off. The company says it will work with the South Dakota Department of Labor to help with job search and employment opportunities
