SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (Dakota Radio Group News) - Two people were found unharmed after a water search Monday night on Lake Oahe.

Pierre Volunteer Fire Department Rescue Squad Chief Ian Paul says a jet ski with two riders went missing from the Spring Creek Recreation Area at around 9:30 pm. Paul says the missing jet skiers, who are local residents and familiar with the area, were found downstream on the Hughes County side, after about an hour and a half of searching.

The two missing people were wearing life jackets, something Paul says is critical when enjoying Lake Oahe and the Missouri River.

“The river and the lake in our area is a lot of fun to enjoy, however, it’s easy to forget how not forgiving a lake can be,” says Paul. “Just gotta remember, use your best judgment and call for assistance when you need it.”

Paul says multiple agencies were involved with last night’s search.

The Pierre Volunteer Fire Department Rescue Squad covers land and water rescue for a large portion of the Pierre/Fort Pierre area.
