Okoboji gears up for another summer of fun
SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (Dakota News Now) - One of the region’s most popular vacation destinations are gearing up for another summer of fun.
Each summer, Okoboji, Iowa welcomes thousands of visitors into the community.
“It’s a small-town atmosphere, but we also have incredible amenities and attractions that keep life really fun here,” Rebecca Peters, Okoboji Director of Tourism, said.
Whether it’s taking a stroll down the Arnolds Park Boardwalk, or taking to the lake, Peters says the area has something for everyone.
“Summers in Lake Okoboji are fantastic because we have incredible water activities,” Peters said. “We also have incredible activities right off the water as well, like with the amusement park, all the live music, and all the great dining options.”
After a year dictated by COVID-19, this summer seems even more special.
“We maybe saw the parents and the kids last year, but we weren’t seeing the grandparents with them because it just wasn’t safe for people to be together. And so, that’s the nice thing that we’re seeing this year, is that families are gathering back together, friends are getting back together in Okoboji, and this is the perfect place for that to happen,” Peters said.
Recently renovated Arnolds Park Amusement Park is noticing a similar trend.
“People are just so ready to get out I think, and we’re seeing that already in the first few weeks of the park season here,” Paul Plumb, Arnolds Park Amusement Park Marketing Director, said. “They walk in, get on the rides, have fun, and just enjoy a great time, all together, making those family memories.”
Through Labor Day Weekend, the park is hosting its “Live at the Lake Concert Series” along with weekly performances at the Roof Garden Ballroom, something that’s a perennial favorite.
“You can just come enjoy life and take it easy,” Plumb said.
