Fire crews called to USD Campus for reports of smoke in Lee Medical Building
VERMILLION, S.D. (Dakota News Now) - Fire and emergency crews were called to the University of South Dakota campus early Wednesday evening for reports of smoke in the Lee Medical Building.
The smoke was reported on the second and third floors just before 6 p.m. Wednesday.
The building was evacuated and no injuries were reported.
An initial investigation found that belts on a HVAC unit had burned up, creating the smoke.
It is not clear if the Lee Medical Building sustained any damage.
Fire and police crews from Vermillion, Elk Point, Gayville and Yankton responded to the initial call.
The city of Vermillion says mutual aid units were requested from several area departments due to the complexity of a potential fire in the building and the hot weather conditions.
