SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (Dakota News Now) - A 14-year-old girl is facing a felony charge after a hit-and-run crash in south Sioux Falls on Sunday.

Sioux Falls Police say the 14-year-old driver and eight other juveniles were traveling in a 2014 Ford Escape at a high rate of speed near Minnesota Avenue and Sunnymede Lane at around 1:30 am. The Escape was traveling north in the southbound lane when it struck a 2011 Toyota Avalon, according to police.

The 17-year-old driver of the Avalon had to extricated by emergency crews and was transported to a hospital. All of the juveniles in the Escape fled the scene with seven of them sustaining non-incapacitating injuries.

Police eventually located the juveniles. The 14-year-old driver has been charged with felony hit and run, reckless driving, no driver’s license, and for driving the wrong way.

Police say officers attempted to stop the Escape traveling at 80 mph near 6th Street and Sycamore Avenue earlier that night.
