SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (Dakota News Now) - Nearly 80 area military veterans are gearing up for a special trip.

The Midwest Honor Flight is heading back to Washington D.C. in September bringing veterans from World War II, the Korean War, and the Vietnam War along for the ride.

This is the first trip for the flight in about two years. This particular flight is sponsored by the Lyon County Riverboat, which donated $60,000 to help veterans visit their respective war memorials.

“It’s a whirlwind of emotions for every single veteran on that flight. Every single veteran comes away with different experiences, different thoughts on the trip itself but ultimately, they’re all coming back with that respect, that honor, and that closure. That’s what we’re all about,” said Midwest Honor Flight President and Director, Aaron Van Beek.

The Midwest Honor Flight is also taking 120 Vietnam veterans to Washington D.C. in October.
