ABERDEEN, S.D. (Dakota News Now) - Aberdeen businesses are not only getting back on their feet this summer following the punch of the pandemic, they’re also getting back to learning more about each other. And they’ll get to join in the festivities at Malchow Plaza Thursday night.

Since the pandemic started last year, a number of new businesses and professionals have moved to town. Now that much of life is closer to normal as ever, the Aberdeen Chamber of Commerce is looking to start making connections again between it’s members.

“We’ve been very lucky that business in Aberdeen has continued to thrive, even with all of the events of the last year.” said Chamber Director of Membership & Engagement Kami Spieker. “And so, we really want to make a point to get those new business professionals connected with other people, and with other businesses in town.”

Spieker said while Thursday’s Business After Hours mixer won’t be the first of the year, they are hoping it will be the most impactful and showcase the to others and the community the importance of business connections.

“Based on the registrations that we have already, it’s a lot of our regular people. But I think after tomorrow night, there’s going to be a lot of people that have questions, want to know what’s going on. ‘What are we doing down here? Where are all of these connections being made?’”

The mixer will be joining a ribbon cutting earlier in the afternoon for the Plaza and the businesses there. And later with the Aberdeen Downtown Association’s first Summer Concert. Spieker said that all combined will be one of the biggest events downtown has seen since the pandemic. And the organizations are ready for the festivities.

“We keep saying like, we’re ready for it I think. But we have to be ready to make a change if it needs to be made.” said Spieker.

The Business After Hours mixer starts at 5:15 pm.
