Canaries Earn Split In Sioux City

SIOUX CITY, IA (Dakota News Now) - The Sioux Falls Canaries pitching staff posted their second shutout of the season on Thursday night to earn a four game series split with the Sioux City Explorers, winning 2-0 in American Association action.

Angel Ventura allowed just three hits and struck out six over seven innings to pick up the win and improve to 4-5 on the season. Though the Canaries’ (21-31) bullpen did allow the tying run to come up in each of the last two innings, Jackson Maynard and Caleb Frare each worked out of trouble with Frare earning his fourth save.

Offensively Cade Gotta led the Sioux Falls attack with a 3-3 day and a pair of walks. Wyatt Ulrich went 2-5 with an RBI single in the second inning that put the Canaries in front.

Sioux Falls returns home tomorrow to open up a nine game homestand with the first of three games against Lincoln at 7:05 PM.
