Police: Sioux Falls man threatened girlfriend, 1-year-old with handgun

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (Dakota News Now) - A Sioux Falls man is facing multiple charges after he allegedly threatened his girlfriend and her one-year-old with a handgun Thursday night.

Sioux Falls Police say the incidents began at around 10:30 pm at a residence in the 6800 block of W. 17th Place. Police say 25-year-old Dakota Andrew Thorstenson became intoxicated and started arguing with his girlfriend. Thorstenson allegedly grabbed his girlfriend’s handgun and threatened her while she was holding her one-year-old daughter.

Thorstenson left the residence and went to a gas station near 12th Street and West Avenue where he attempted to rob a patron, police say. Police were called to the scene by the victim after Thorstenson allegedly broke the car’s driver-side window with the handgun.

Thorstenson was later found walking near 41st Street and Western Avenue and was arrested.

Thorstenson was arrested for robbery, two counts of aggravated assault domestic, neglect or abuse of a minor, possession of a firearm while intoxicated, and more.
