Watertown Police deployed spike strips in pursuit ending at Lake Kampeska home
SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (Dakota News Now) - One man is in custody and another is at large after Watertown Police deployed spike strips in a pursuit that ended at a Lake Kampeska home overnight.
The Codington County Sheriff’s Office says it was notified that 31-year-old Anthony Alden, a parole absconder, was possibly headed towards Watertown in a stolen vehicle.
Authorities say the pursuit began at around 2:30 am when a vehicle traveling on South Dakota Highway 31 fled from an attempted traffic stop by a Codington County Sheriff’s deputy. The pursuit continued in northwest Watertown where Watertown Police laid spike strips. The suspect’s vehicle struck the strips and slowly turned into a residential driveway before coming to a stop in the backyard and on the shore of Lake Kampeska.
Authorities say two suspects from the vehicle fled on foot. 30-year-old Duran American Horse was arrested but authorities say Alden is still at large.
American Horse was arrested on multiple charges including grand theft and DUI third offense.
The Codington County Sheriff’s Office is asking the public to lock and remove their keys from their vehicles.
