Fundraising effort ongoing to help heart transplant recipient
SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (Dakota News Now) - A benefit is helping raise funds for a family facing mounting medical costs after not one, but two heart transplants.
Shawna Taylor is currently recovering from her second heart transplant, after having to go back on the list to get one after facing a slow decline in health.
“Energy and stamina was kind of going down hill, just slowly. And then over the last six to 12 months , it’s kind of more drastically declined.” said Taylor’s husband Nick Taylor.
Their friends and family wanted to get something going to help them offset Shawna’s medical costs. Some got together to set up a benefit at a Chester businesses, recognizing that once they got the ball rolling, many would help pitch in.
“There was a few people that started talking about putting on a feed, and doing a benefit. And it just kind of went on from that.” said benefit co-organizer Amanda Christiansen.
He’f Bar & Grill in Chester hosted a benefit, featuring a silent auction and a gyro feed, with proceeds going towards the Taylors. Nick Taylor said that the amount of support that he and his wife have seen is unbelievable. And he said that everyone who has donated will be with them forever.
“For the people who have donated, I can’t thank you enough. It’s amazing, I don’t know how we’ll ever thank you. I’m really just kind of speechless with all of the love and support.” said Nick Taylor.
A GoFundMe page has been set up for the Taylors, and can be found here.
