South Dakota National Guard troops will head to the southern border again
PIERRE, S.D. (Dakota News Now) - Governor Kristi Noem said on Friday that South Dakota National Guard soldiers will head back to the southern border this fall.
In her weekly column, Noem wrote that the seventh detachment of South Dakota National Guard troops was recently welcomed home after fortifying 20 miles of border wall and repairing 46 breaches between Del Rio and Eagle Pass, Texas.
Noem also said that another group of South Dakota National Guard soldiers will be deployed to the southern border on a federal activation later this fall.
Noem has sent troops to the southern border several times during her time as Governor. Earlier this year, House Bill 1061 allocated nearly $4.3 million to the special emergency and disaster special revenue fund to finance the deployment.
