SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (Dakota News Now) - South Dakotans can drop off unused and expired prescription drugs on Saturday as part of the DEA’s 31st National Prescription Drug Take Back Day.

More than 140 drop-off locations will be available across South Dakota, Minnesota, Iowa, Nebraska, and North Dakota. Nationwide, more than 4,400 collection sites will be set up.

Collection locations will accept tablets, capsules, patches, liquid medications sealed in their original containers, and other forms of prescription medications.

The take-back day is to reduce the risk of accidental poisonings and protect communities by disposing of unneeded medications and preventing drug abuse.
