Family searches for answers a month after Jory Lowdog vanishes in Dupree
RAPID CITY, S.D. (KOTA) - A family is searching for answers more than a month after 25-year-old Jory Lowdog disappeared.
Lowdog was last seen Sept. 18 in Dupree. Family members said he has not called, texted or appeared on social media since that day.
Family members said search-and-rescue teams have been out over the past week, covering fields, ravines, back roads and rural properties in and around Dupree. Volunteers have passed out flyers, and crews have used trucks, ATVs and foot searches to cover ground. There is no sign of where Lowdog could be.
Toni Redbear, a relative of Lowdog, said many people are helping search, though the area is large.
“Boots on the ground, it sounds like they have a lot of helpers out there searching; there were maybe 42 or 22 or 32 people out at the time, but it’s a big range of area to search,” Redbear said.
Loved ones describe Lowdog as connected to his family and community, someone who checks in regularly.
Redbear is asking anyone with time to join the search.
“No matter what it takes, just take your time and go out there and search. We’ve asked a couple of individuals who are working on projects here on Cheyenne River, such as water towers, and they come in from outside to work here on the reservation, so they don’t know the area; they don’t know the families, so I’ve also given some of them individual flyers and told them to put the word out, and just be on the lookout,” Redbear said.
Anyone with information about the disappearance of Jory Lowdog is asked to contact local law enforcement immediately.
