KECI in Missoula, Montana is where she began her career, before returning to both the CBS and NBC affiliates in her hometown of Madison, Wisconsin. It was there she spent close to 15 years on-air between the two, working with incredible journalists along the way. While there were dreams and plans long in place to move to and work in far bigger markets, it was during an assignment for the Midwest Horse Fair in 2012 that she became good friends with a horse trainer who wouldn't let up about a cowboy in South Dakota she just needed to meet. The rest is history.

Carleen moved with her daughter to South Dakota in 2014. Excited to try something different and remain close to home, she began to freelance for companies and entities nationwide as well as became the editor for the local county paper. It was an incredible opportunity and learning experience. However, years of talking mainly to people either on the phone or via email was fairly isolating for an extrovert like Carleen, especially in a place like rural South Dakota. Concerned she was talking a little too much to the horses and dogs during breaks from her computer, Carleen and her family agreed it was time for another change.

An opening at KDLT in 2017 was a great opportunity for Carleen to get back into local news. She became Managing Editor for the team along with a Producer and Anchor of the Morning Show until the official merger with KSFY in 2019. She now works as Managing Editor, Reporter and Co-Anchor of the 4-5 pm and 5:30-6 pm shows for Dakota News Now. She believes it's a fantastic role with an incredible team, saying 'the combined staff of both new and veteran journalists along with the resources Gray Television can help provide is a welcome boost, not only for those in this newsroom, but for the region and local news'.

Carleen, her husband and their children love to travel and spend as much time outdoors and with family and friends as possible. She is an active runner, skier, novice team-roper and barrel racer, photographer, AirBnB host, craft beer and wine lover, member of several boards including her local Economic Development Corporation, member of Leading Women for Shared Parenting, and helps when she can with the worship team at her church. She and her husband Casey are also musicians and perform both as a duo and with their full band in what down time they can find!

Always looking for great or important stories to tell, Carleen hopes you'll connect with her at carleen.wild@dakotanewsnow.com when you have ideas to share.
