Kelly Avellino is an anchor and investigative reporter for NBC12 News. She's lived in Richmond for multiple years since moving to Virginia, and is proud to call the eclectic and outdoorsy River City her home.
Kelly began at NBC12 shooting her own stories, and ultimately expanded to covering the Richmond city beat, and then joining the On Your Side Investigators team. She anchors the 12 News Before Noon show and the breaking news desk for the early morning shows. Kelly is honored to help share the voices of so many incredible people who make up RVA.
One of Kelly’s most recent stories helped prompt state legislation to be introduced, requiring background checks for gun rentals. She’s reported on far-reaching stories from Black Lives Matter protests, Richmond's Confederate statues falling, to the homicide of UVA student, Hannah Graham. However, some of Kelly's favorite stories are those that touch the soul, including that of a young boy living with a rare form of dwarfism.
Originally from New Jersey, Kelly traveled to Grand Junction, Colorado, for her first on-air job as a multimedia journalist and anchor.
When she's not tracking down stories, you may spot Kelly jogging, hiking or enjoying the beach… anything outdoors (hopefully minus the bugs)!
