Vanessa Gomez is a morning anchor at Dakota News Now.
She joined KSFY in February 2016 as a morning reporter and was promoted to Weeknight Anchor in February 2019. She realized she liked the hours of the morning shift better and was given the opportunity to switch back to mornings in September of 2019 as an anchor. She stuck to the morning shift when KSFY and KDLT merged newsrooms to become Dakota News Now in January of 2020 and is loving the new morning show!
Vanessa is originally from Sacramento, California and attended the University of Southern California, where she received a degree in Broadcast and Digital Journalism. Fight on! That’s where she learned the “ins and outs” of how a television station operates. She worked on the live evening newscast there as a reporter, multimedia journalist, and producer. She also hosted the daily morning variety show on campus.
Vanessa’s love of broadcasting started in middle school when she anchored the morning announcements. She decided to keep pursuing a path towards a career in journalism and graduated from USC in May of 2015. Vanessa moved back to Sacramento to work at KOVR as a production assistant. There, she worked on every show in some capacity. She produced the noon show, wrote stories for the evening newscasts, and helped produce the 5 and 6 am shows.
Vanessa leaves behind a large family in Sacramento, but she is loving the warm welcome the Midwest has given her. Don’t be shy and feel free to say hello if you see her around! You may see her running outside (when it’s above 30 degrees), drinking coffee somewhere, enjoying the sunshine when it’s out, or trying something new to eat. She would love to hear from you via email if you have any story ideas or just want to say hello.
