Sam Gabrielli is an Emmy Award-winning Broadcast Meteorologist at Dakota News Now.
Sam grew up in the Minneapolis/St. Paul, Minnesota area. He had internships throughout college at KARE 11 News (the NBC affiliate in the Twin Cities) and also at Aeris Weather in Eden Prairie, MN. Sam attended Iowa State University and graduated in 2017 with a Bachelor’s Degree in Meteorology. Sam is also an American Meteorological Society member and plans to obtain his Seal of Approval in the foreseeable future.
Sam started tracking the weather at a young age. This is when he watched the Weather Channel commonly and tuned into the news to keep tabs on impending storm systems. He always loved when strong to severe storms came to town! The biggest event that drove him to pursue a meteorological career was the Hugo, Minnesota tornado event of 2008 that tracked five miles north of his house. Several family friends of his were impacted, thus motivating him to study the science behind meteorology.
Sam grew up in a military family and is the oldest of three children. He also enjoys traveling and has been to nearly 40 of our 50 states! Along with the weather, he shares a passion for sports. Sam is a fan of every Minnesota team and also keeps tabs on professional tennis tournaments. Be sure to say hi to Sam in the community! He is more than likely having a good laugh, going for a run, golfing, playing a match of tennis, or at the local hockey rink.
