UPDATE: Woman’s body found along Missouri River bank identified

Authorities in Pierre have identified the body found along the Missouri River bank on Monday.

Pierre police the body has been identified as 40-year-old Lola BearStops of Pierre. Police said the identification was made from fingerprints which were sent to the South Dakota Forensic Lab for comparison on Tuesday. Confirmation was received Wednesday.

Police say the cause of death is pending.


Authorities in Pierre say a body has been found along the riverbank of the Missouri River near the Downs Marina Peninsula.

Pierre police responded to the area after a 911 call around 10 a.m.Monday. Police said they located the body of an unidentified female just east of the Peninsula.

An autopsy has been ordered and will be conducted in Sioux Falls later week, police say.
