Bomb squad asking community to vote on name for new robot
Law enforcement in Sioux Falls is asking the public to vote on a name for its newest squad member.
Public Information Officer Sam Clemens said the bomb squad has narrowed down three choices to name its new robot.
They asked students in 23 public and private schools in the Sioux Falls area to come up with names and received 2,500 submissions.
The bomb squad narrowed it down to Trax, Boomer and Agent 605. A name decal will be placed on the arm of the bomb robot.
Voting begins Monday at 3 p.m. and ends Sunday at midnight. Vote on the Sioux Falls Police Department's

The school where the winning name came from will receive a visit from the bomb squad and the new robot.
Police said the robot will help keep law enforcement safe.
"The bomb robot is really an invaluable tool," Clemens said. "The idea behind it -- what they use it for -- is to put that robot in a position where we don't have to put people."
If authorities find a suspicious object or device, the robot can take pictures and video as well as pick up and move it.
Clemens said the bomb squad previously had a robot, but the new one has updated technology.
The bomb squad is made up of members of the sheriff's office and the police and fire rescue departments. They hope the naming contest will be a fun way to get the community involved.
