Authorities say a Brandon man was killed in a shooting at a home in Maryland Monday afternoon.

Seventy-year-old Danny Lee Murphy was with his wife visiting friends in Brookeville when a man opened fire inside the home in the 22000 block of Brown Farm Way.

Murphy, a 66-year-old female resident of the home and a 54-year-old man who had been working at the home were killed. Three others, including Murphy's wife, escaped unharmed.

The Montgomery County Department of Police says they believe the situation began after the suspect, 41-year-old Christopher Wilson Snyder, had been holding his wife in their home against her will over the weekend.

She told police she escaped to a neighbor's home for help around 3:45 p.m. ET Monday. He followed her to the home where police said he opened fire.

Snyder then went back to his home where a standoff took place for hours, police said. When officers broke in around 11 p.m. ET, they found Snyder dead with an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound.

The investigation is ongoing.

According to the Brandon Valley School District, Murphy was a former Brandon Valley Middle School English teacher and was an employee from 1969-2004.

In a statement Tuesday, the district said, "Our thoughts are with the family and friends of Mr. Murphy during this difficult time."
