UPDATE: Construction worker dies following partial trench wall collapse

UPDATE:

Public Information Officer Sam Clemens confirms to KSFY News that a 34-year-old construction worker has died following a partial wall collapse in a trench.

Clemens said the accident happened around 11 a.m. Thursday at a construction site near Brewster Street and Bahnson Avenue in southeast Sioux Falls.

Two men were working in the trench when the sides began to collapse. One man made it out and another was trapped.

Rescuers eventually freed the man and transported him by ambulance to a Avera McKennan Hospital where he died.

Authorities say a construction worker has been taken to a hospital following a partial wall collapse in a trench in southeast Sioux Falls.

A detective with the Sioux Falls Police Department told KSFY News the accident happened late Thursday morning at a construction site near Brewster Street and Bahnson Avenue.

Two construction workers were working in the trench when a wall partially collapsed. One worker became trapped.

Other workers were not able to get the man out and called 911.

Sioux Falls Fire Rescue got the man out and took him to a hospital. His condition is unknown at this time.
