Construction on the new City Administration building is set to begin soon.

A groundbreaking ceremony is scheduled for Jan. 9 at 2 p.m. It will begin at the Downtown Library in Meeting Room A, and then will move across the street to the building site.

The public is welcome to attend.

Sales tax bonds were sold in October, and the City said bond proceeds will be used to design, construct, furnish and equip the new building.

The $21.9 million project also will allow investments to improve Van Eps Park and Dakota Avenue.

The park will be closed throughout the construction process. The City said it will be cleared and a fence will be installed next week.

People are encouraged to use nearby Fawick Park, Falls Park or Terrance Park while Van Eps is under construction.

The renovated park will have a new shelter and walkways, enhanced lighting, new trees and an irrigated green space.
