A suspect is in custody after an apparent break-in incident that temporarily shut down Phillips Avenue in downtown Sioux Falls.
Police responded to a report of a burglary around 3:30 a.m. Wednesday on Phillips Avenue just south of 10th Street.
Witnesses at the scene tell KSFY News a man attempted to use a wine bottle to break a window at an apartment complex attached to a business. When he did not succeed, the suspect instead wrapped his hand and punched the glass until it broke.
The man allegedly grabbed a beer from the fridge of the unoccupied condo.
Police soon surrounded the building.
The man was then seen on the roof the building. Police eventually took him into custody after about 20 minutes.
Authorities identified the suspect as 47-year-old Donald Hallor of Sioux Falls. He faces first degree burglary, petty theft and intentional damage to property charges.
Phillips Avenue was closed for just under an hour during the investigation.
