The South Dakota Department of Public Safety has released the names of five people killed in a crash on Independence Day.

A Yankton city police officer was attempting to stop a car early Wednesday morning traveling east on South Dakota Highway 50. That car shut off its headlights and crossed onto the westbound lanes where it collided with a westbound car.

Michael Worlie, 29, of Sioux Falls was driving the eastbound car. Worlie and his passenger, Joshua Odens, 27, also of Sioux Falls died at the scene. Neither were wearing seat belts.

Tawna Lichty-Reineke, 40, was driving the westbound car. She was killed in the crash, as well as Chad Reineke, 43, and Janicka Luschen, 10. They were all from Yankton. The fourth occupant, a 12-year-old female, was airlifted to a Sioux Falls hospital with life-threatening injuries. She's also from Yankton. Her name was not released. Lichty-Reineke and all of the passengers in the car she was riding were wearing seat belts.

South Dakota’s Highway Patrol is still investigating the crash.
