Sioux Falls police say an argument led to an early morning shooting on New Year's Day.

On Wednesday, police arrested three people believed to be involved in the shooting at an apartment complex on the 1300 block of South Cleveland Avenue. It happened in a parking lot around 2:20 a.m.

Police said 24-year-old Jorey Davis of Flandreau pointed a gun at a woman inside an apartment. Police spokesman Sam Clemens said the victim then called for a ride and went out to meet the driver, a 48-year-old male. The brother of Jorey, 28-year-old Jeremy Davis of Sioux Falls, was already outside when the victim came outside and got into the vehicle and the two exchanged words.

Clemens said the victim pulled Jeremy out of the vehicle and got in and was then punched by Jeremy, while Jorey pointed a gun at the driver. The 48-year-old driver then drove off and Jorey began shooting at the vehicle as it drove away.

The driver, inadvertently, drove to a dead-end in the parking lot. He ended up having to turn around and drive past Jorey again, who continued to shoot. Clemens said after making it by the suspects a second time, the driver realized he had been shot.

Clemens said the driver's injury was non-life threatening but he needed surgery. Clemens said the victims alerted authorities en route to a local hospital.

When police arrived on the scene, Clemens said they found Jorey and 24-year-old Larissa Rederth of Sioux Falls, outside a different apartment complex. Clemens said Rederth was carrying the suspected gun, trying to conceal it in her waistband. Both Jorey and Rederth had possession of meth. Police later found Jeremy and arrested him at the complex.

Clemens said the gun used in the shooting was reported stolen in November from a Sioux Falls home.

Jorey has been charged with aggravated assault, possession of a firearm while intoxicated, discharge of a firearm, possession of stolen property and possession of a firearm by a felon. Jeremy has been charged with aggravated assault and simple assault. Rederth has been charged with possession of a firearm by a felon, possession of a firearm while intoxicated, stolen property and drug charges.
