UPDATE: Woman dies in crash on I-29 near Dell Rapids

UPDATE:
Authorities say a woman died early Thursday in a one-vehicle crash near Dell Rapids.
The person’s name is not being released pending notification of family members. She was the only person in the vehicle.
According to the Department of Public Safety, a 2018 Kenworth T370 semi-truck for Avera was northbound on Interstate 29 around 6:50 a.m. when the vehicle drifted right off the roadway. The vehicle struck and traveled over a guardrail before striking a bridge pillar near mile marker 96.
The 34-year-old female driver was pronounced dead at the scene. She was wearing a seatbelt, the DPS said.
The South Dakota Highway Patrol continues to investigate the crash.
Avera released the following statement following the crash:
"Upon learning of the tragic fatal crash involving one of our Avera family members this morning, our hearts were broken. Our deepest sympathies and prayers are with the family of our employee during this most difficult time.
The vehicle involved in the accident was a nuclear medicine truck. Avera McKennan experts are working with the South Dakota Highway Patrol and other agencies to ensure there are no public safety issues that have not been addressed."

Highway Patrol officials confirm one person is dead in a semi crash near Dell Rapids Thursday morning.
The semi-truck hit an overpass while traveling north on I-29 south of Dell Rapids.
Traffic is reduced to one lane and is backed up along the interstate. Highway officials would like people traveling in the area to use caution.
