The organization called Our Growth Project will hold an open mic night at Augustana University Thursday, January 25th. The organization was started because the founder, Wilson Kubwayo, wanted kids to be able to connect with others in the community as well as connect with adults. The vice president of the organization, Sul Dibba, said he felt growing up in Sioux Falls that he didn't have an option like that to connect with other kids when it came to the arts and entertainment in the city.
The two got together and created this organization that hosts an open mic night the last Thursday of every month. This month's event is on Thursday, January 25th from 7:00 PM until 9:00 PM. The doors open at 6:45 PM and the event will be held inside the Commons on the campus inside what's called the Back Alley. The event is free and open to the public to attend.
Anyone is allowed to perform as well. The organizers have several people already booked, but there are about 7 to 10 spots open for people to sign up the night of the event. They encourage people of all ages to try performing. The featured performer of this event is Travis Nye, a magician.
