UPDATE:

Authorities have identified the suspect accused of sexual assault on the South Dakota State University campus and say he is no longer in the state.

The University Police Department is working jointly with out-of-state law enforcement on this incident.

No other information, including the suspect's name, has been provided at this time.

ORIGINAL STORY:

Authorities in Brookings are searching for a suspect following a reported sexual assault on the campus of South Dakota State University.

The assault took place Sunday at a residence hall in Jackrabbit Village, according to the University Police Department. Jackrabbit Village is a 3-dorm complex near the university's student union, according to SDSU's website.

SDSU sent an email to all students Sunday night notifying them of the incident.

According to the email, the suspect was allowed into the residence hall, but police do not believe he is an SDSU student.

Police describe the suspect as a white man around 18-20 years of age, about 5'6" to 5'9" tall with an average build. He was last seen wearing a yellow University of Iowa sweatshirt and a gray baseball cap.

The email states the UPD is seeking information about the individual and his whereabouts, because they believe there is "potential for ongoing threat." Anyone with details about the incident can contact UPD at 605-688-5117.
