Project S.O.S. volunteers give out thousands of backpacks
Hundreds of volunteers came together to make sure all kids can begin the new school year with the supplies they need.
"Every parent wants their kid to be happy and confident when they start their school year and this is just one way to help out with that," Volunteer Tommy Schmitz said.
For 29 years Project S.O.S. has given out backpacks filled with school supplies to families in need.
This year the Banquet will give out more than 6,000 backpacks thanks to the generosity of people and businesses who have donated supplies, and the hundreds of volunteers who help pack and distribute the bags every year.
'Seeing them be able to pick out their bag and knowing they'll have everything that every other kid will have on the first day, they're super pumped about it," The Banquet Executive Director Tamera Jerke-Liesinger said.
Families who missed Saturday's backpack giveaway can still pick up backpacks at the Banquet all day Thursday starting at 6 a.m.
