Project Warm Up collects more than 2500 blankets
This week, students and other volunteers around Sioux Falls worked to make sure people in need have a warm blanket this winter season.
Project warm up held its annual blanket-making even at Rosa Parks Elementary School Saturday, adding to the already record breaking year of blankets.
Project warm up usually has a goal of making one thousand blankets, but before the project even began this morning, they already had more than two thousand blankets, with hundreds more completed throughout the day.
"We have a few hundred volunteers here who are still making blankets and it is the best feeling in the world to know that many kids are going to be impacted," Project Warm Up Coordinator Tracy Vik said.
"There are a lot of homeless people in our community that just need something to keep them warm during this cold season," student volunteer Michala Graanstra said.
Many of the young volunteers at today's event say it's a great way to spend the day with their friends while helping to make a big difference for children in need this holiday season.
