The South Dakota National Guard says it is too soon to tell if local guard members will be deployed to the U.S.-Mexico border.

This follows President Trump's announcement that he is moving forward with plans to combat illegal immigration with the national guard.

He is working with governors to immediately deploy guard members to the border.

Statement from the South Dakota National Guard concerning deployment to the US-Mexico border:

"No South Dakota National Guard forces have been called up in regards to the President's announcement authorizing the use of the National Guard to support Department of Homeland Security/Customs and Border Protection with border security. The Department of Defense is still in consultation with the White House about expanding potential support missions," Director of Public Affairs Anthony Deiss said.
