Second person arrested in connection to Falls Park homicide investigation
Authorities say a second person has been arrested in connection to a homicide at Falls Park over the weekend.
Lt. Kyle Hoekstra said 18-year-old Essence Marie Becker was arrested on second degree accessory to murder Monday night.
Becker is accused of assisting 24-year-old Abraham Garnawu Darsaw, the suspect in investigation, though authorities would not go into specifics.
Hoekstra said Darsaw was arrested on second degree murder, first degree manslaughter, aggravated assault and grand theft around 7:30 p.m. outside a residence in the 1200 block of N. Prairie Avenue.
Authorities arrested Becker a short time later.
Police said the deadly shooting happened Sunday just before 10 p.m. at the Farmer's Market shelter where a large group was gathering when two smaller groups began to argue.
According to court documents, the argument began over "someone disrespecting a female." Hoekstra said it was an ongoing dispute between two individuals.
Witnesses saw Darsaw pull a pistol and fire it, police said. Two men were hit and taken to a hospital by family or friends. A 25-year-old man died and a 22-year-old man is recovering in the ICU.
Hoekstra said there may be an additional arrest.
The investigation is ongoing.
Darsaw and Becker are expected to make their first court appearances Tuesday afternoon.
