The mayor of Sioux Falls has responded to a hate symbol being burned in a parking lot.
Mayor Paul TenHaken took to Twitter Monday, condemning the burning of a swastika in a parking lot at Tuthill Park.
"Regardless of its motives as a stupid prank or display of hate, the seriousness of this crime is significant," TenHaken said. "As parents and as a community, we all play a role in teaching our children about the history and hate this symbol represents."
The city has been in contact with leaders of the Jewish community since the incident.
