UPDATE, 11 a.m. Jan. 9

Police have ruled the death of a Sioux Falls woman whose body was found after being reported missing as a homicide.

Twenty-year-old Pasqalina Badi died by asphyxia due to strangulation, according to Sioux Falls police spokesperson Sam Clemens.

Clemens said police have deemed 19-year-old Amir Hasan Beaudion as the primary suspect in the case, though he has not been formally charged. He has been charged in a separate abduction attempt, and is currently in police custody.

Investigators are still trying to figure out a motive in the case. Clemens said it is still unclear whether Beaudion had any prior connection to Badi.

Badi was first reported missing Jan. 6. Her body was later found in a ditch between Sioux Falls and Harrisburg. Investigators say surveillance video shows Beaudion following Badi as she left work Sunday. He then got into the passenger seat of her car before the car drove away.
