Leave it to a kid to come up with a way to make a one hospital exercise more fun.

Allie Weber is one of 10 finalists in the 2017 Discovery Education 3M Young Scientist Challenge.

She is a student at Sioux Falls' Edison Middle School.

Her invention is...well, let's let her explain.

"This is a nerf dart Spirometer that would be used in lung therapy in children's hospitals for kids that are spending time in the hospital that need more fun or are bored with the normal system," she said.

Allie will compete against nine other finalists for a grand prize of $25,000 and the title of America's Top Young Scientist.

The competition is in October in St. Paul.
