While students and families gear up for a new school year, so are teachers as they prepare their classrooms for a year of learning.

Thursday, a teacher swap meet invited hundreds to buy, sell and trade decor, books and other supplies that will enhance a student's learning experience.

"This is like a black Friday for teachers!" Montrose teacher Jackie Jandl said. "It's very reasonably priced, lots of good stuff, bulletin board stuff, books for kids, all kinds of things teachers can come in and bring back to their classroom, this year."

From the youngest, newest of teachers, to those nearing their 40th year in the field, there's something at the swap meet for everyone.

"Teachers spend a lot of money for their classrooms at the beginning of the year. It's important that we come and pick up books for a dollar or a quarter and bring them back for our kids this year," Jandl said.

"Someone was selling their totes for $.25 a piece and you couldn't get them that reasonable at the dollar store," Cheryl Prunty said.

Humboldt Elementary teacher Cheryl Prunty is in the market to sell.

"I've spent a lot of money over the years. Now, I'm trying to downsize and it's nice to have a place where I can do that."

What may not be valuable to one, will be to someone else.

"We're very lucky to have this. It's fun. Everyone is happy. Glad to sell their stuff, it's been fun," Jandl said.

This was the first year for this particular swap meet at the Sioux Falls Convention Center. The event was held from 11:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m.
