Authorities in Pierre have cited the driver of a semi-truck that struck the South Pierre Street Bridge on Thursday morning.
Pierre Police Department said 51-year-old Alexeis Davidson Gonzalez from Florida disregarded traffic signs designating the appropriate truck route through Pierre and followed GPS directions to travel north on Pierre Street.
The semi-tractor and trailer became wedged under the train bridge around 6 a.m.
Officials said Gonzalez was issued a citation for a truck route violation and released from the scene.
Damage to the semi-tractor and trailer is estimated at $25,000. There is no estimate available for the cost of removal.
The semi truck was transporting bottled water from Colorado to North Dakota.
