Colder with Additional Snowfall

2/18/2020 | From First Alert Weather Center Meteorologist Tyler Roney

We're continuing to track some light snow moving through the region. While minor accumulations are likely tonight, they won't be adding up to anything too substantial. As we go into Wednesday, we're tracking another burst of snow that mainly looks to impact locations south of I-90 and primarily around Yankton and stretching into northern Nebraska. Wednesday morning itself will start out on a cold note with temperatures dipping below zero nearly everywhere and only rebound to the teens south and in the single digits to the north. As much as 2 to 4 inches of new snowfall is likely in north Nebraska by Wednesday night.

By Thursday, our temperatures will begin to rebound quickly. Highs will be in the 20's for the eastern parts of the area and even get back into the mid to upper 30's around Pierre and going west! Plenty of sunshine is on the way for Thursday and also for Friday as well. Friday will be back to 40 in Sioux Falls, mid 40's in Pierre, and upper 30's in Aberdeen. The weekend itself is looking beautiful as well with highs remaining in the 40's nearly everywhere with the exception of Aberdeen as highs will still be in the 30's. Regardless, it'll be a pleasant weekend all across the region!

Next week, some changes will be arriving once again. Another temperature decrease is on the way and we're also tracking the chance for some heavy snowfall. The area of low pressure is still several days out from even moving onshore so there is still plenty of time for that system to shift. Right now, next Monday in western South Dakota through Tuesday and Wednesday. The wind will be picking up as well. It's far too early to talk about amounts from this particular storm system but stay with your First Alert weather team as we get closer!
