How Liberterian U.S. Senate candidate Thomas Laehn said he would fight political corruption
Running for Iowa’s open seat
DES MOINES, Iowa (Gray Media Iowa State Capitol Bureau) — Greene County Attorney Thomas Laehn said that he is running for the U.S. Senate in Iowa not be a “spoiler,” but he wants to fight corruption that he said exists with both major political parties.
Laeh, a Libertarian from Jefferson, is running for the seat that U.S. Senator Joni Ernst, a Republican, will leave in January when she retires.
Thomas Laehn bio:
Age: 44
Home: Jefferson
Job: Greene County Attorney
Previous job: Constitutional law professor
Laehn is the first Libertarian in Iowa to get elected to a partisan office. Here is why he said that he wants to become U.S. Senator.
Laehn said that his campaign is not aiming to become a “spoiler,” a candidate working to stop one of the other candidates -- the Republican or the Democrat -- from getting elected.
Corruption is frequent in both major political parties, Laehn alleged. Here is how he said that he would target that corruption.
Eliminating personal income taxes is Laehn’s ultimate goal in Congress, but he opposed how the Republicans’ One Big Beautiful Bill Act cut taxes.
The national debt is nearing $40.5 trillion and has risen by an estimated $2 trillion over the past year under President Donald Trump and the Republican-led Congress.
Laehn blames both parties for the country’s collective debt and shared these ideas to lower the debt.
Laehn is running against U.S. Rep. Ashley Hinson (R - IA 2nd District, Marion) and state Rep. Josh Turek (D - Council Bluffs).
