Car crashes into home in northeast Sioux Falls

Authorities say a man was was hurt after crashing his car into a home in northeast Sioux Falls.

The accident happened around 3:30 a.m. Wednesday at a home on the 800 block of N. Leadale Avenue. The homeowners tell KSFY News they heard a loud bang and the sound of glass shattering.

Lt. Jeff Garden tells KSFY News a 21-year-old man who was driving the car was transported to the hospital with life-threatening injuries. No one else was in the car.

No one inside the home was hurt.

Public Information Officer Sam Clemens said via a press release that the vehicle involved was a 2001 Chrysler 300. The driver was headed north on Leadale Avenue when he went off the roadway at a curve in the road. The car hit the curb, grazed a tree, and flipped before it crashed into the house.

Clemens said speed appears to be a factor in the crash, and that there are some indicators that alcohol may have been involved.

This is not the first time the house has been hit by a car. The homeowners say a car crashed into the home back in April of 2015. A passenger in the car received minor injuries, and the driver was charged with DWI.
